Connectivity at Grounds
[TITLE]

While streaming at away grounds, sometimes connectivity can be a major issue. Most clubs give the away Team a good WiFi connection or LAN connection.

In this image, the production team have a good vantage point, but if the weather rains it is not good for the kit.

However, there are some case where you do not get a good connection, so how do you solve this ?

Using a mobile hotspot can help with connectivity, but again, in some cases it is not an optimal solution. If there is a larger crowd and they use mobiles themselves the connectivity can be broken.

One solution can be to use a Starlink Satellite Antenna. In open space, you can get an excellent connection to an overhead Satellite. The only issue you do need to get a clear overhead view looking South. At some stadiums this can be challenging if you are already at the south side of a stadiium and overhead roofing.

The solution to this problem is to position the Starlink on the North Side of the stadium and use a Wifi bridge to connect across the pitch.

The set of kit you require:
1. Starlink Antenna
2. WiFi Bridge.
3. LAN/WiFi router
4. Battery Pack such as a car battery in case no power.
5. LAN switch or router to provide Starlink and Wifi connection

Positioning the Antenna at the far side of the stadium in a position pointing overhead south will give good connectivity.

Use the WiFi bridge to get connectivity across the pitch.

Problem Solved.

In some cases, you may be able to situate the Antenna on the roof above the filming gantry.

In most cases though, you will need to situate at far side of pitch.

Using a point-to-point extension network is more convenient to achieve a signal across the pitch (up to 1Km).

This image shows a small camera connected remotely and passing signal back to the gantry. Positioning the Starlink Antenna remotely works the same way to allow the satellite connectivity.

One other alternative is to film from the North side of the stadium and stream direct from the camera out to a remote position. Remote production (using an RTMP push connection) is a very good option to allow the production in a sheltered and warm room.
